Hikes for all levels

Hiking trilogy in Mallnitz: Three levels for every demand

Picturesque nature, fantastic panorama and clear mountain air: Mallnitz as a high valley is embedded in the fascinating mountain world of the Hohe Tauern.

On a total of 150 kilometres of hiking trails, there are routes and tours for every level. The offer ranges from an extended walk on almost flat ground in the valley to eventful alpine pasture and hut hikes to panoramic summit tours at over 3000 metres. Magical moments are guaranteed at every altitude.

Mallnitz itself is already 1200 metres above sea level. If you start here in the valley, you can already hike for kilometres without ascents. Perfect for gradually getting used to the altitude and for families with children. The Mallnitz Talrundweg, for example, leads from the centre of the village in a star shape into the three side valleys of Tauern, Seebach and Dösental. Large panorama boards provide information about further connecting hikes. The circular route takes about four to five hours. Of course, only partial sections (1.5 to two hours) can be hiked here.

The hike to the Kleiner Tauernsee (2355 m) takes you a bit higher. This panoramic hike in the Ankogel area offers fabulous views, crystal-clear water and a touch of adventure. From the Ankogel cable car valley station, you pass the Hannoverhaus on the Göttinger Weg towards the Mindener Hütte. Sturdy shoes, surefootedness and rainwear are recommended for this four to five hour hike.

The adventure continues, as eight three-thousand-metre peaks await ambitious summit strikers around Mallnitz, including the Hochalmspitze (3360 m), the Großelendkopf (3319 m) and the Ankogel (3250 m). But even alpine newcomers can fulfil their dream of reaching 3000 m and walk the paths of alpinism. The Ankogel high-mountain railway takes you comfortably up to 2636 m, including the best view. If you want to go further: from here there are hikes of all levels of difficulty to the summit of the Ankogel. No matter which level you choose, most of the starting and finishing points of the hikes can be reached comfortably by hiking bus or hiking taxi. A service of the Alpine Pearls association, with which Mallnitz is also committed to gentle tourism and environmentally friendly mobility.
